Eurasian Collared-Dove (Streptopelia decaocto) – 2022

I managed to get a photo of this bird a couple of days ago. Originally found in Asia, primarily China and India, these bird have been slowly moving worldwide. In 1974 in the Bahamas around 50 captive birds escaped and have now spread over much of North America. I’m not sure when they arrived in our area, the southwest coast of British Columbia, but it was a first for me.

Goose Island – 2019

This pair of Canadian Geese spend the whole year cruising around this small raft in front of my sister’s house. Some years they have managed to build a nest and hatch goslings even though it is a fairly vulnerable spot.
