Exquisite photo Kenneth. Not only are common mergansers beautiful ducks and their chicks a rare treat, but the lines in the water, and the light reflection are awesome.
Thanks very much Jet. I really enjoy watching mergansers, especially when chicks are involved. One of the chicks here is taking a ride on it’s mom’s back. And I agree, the water was a nice catch.
I have never seen a merganser chick, what a thrill it must be.
Mergansers tend to have lots of chicks, probably because of a low survival rate. Around here Bald Eagles like the pick off the babies and the mother merganser can’t put up much defence –
