Squamish Wind – 1970

This photo is looking up Howe Sound, British Columbia, Canada. The wind action in this photo is known locally as a Squamish Wind because the town of Squamish lies ahead and to the north at the end of Howe Sound. When this particular wind blows it is usually in the winter and it brings the frigid air from the Coast Mountains straight down the sound. The ocean produces whitecaps that form distinctive longs streaks of white foam in the water.
