Have you read any of Wayne Johnston’s books? As I’ve probably mentioned, Newfoundland is the only province I haven’t visited, and Johnston’s books made me want to go all the more.
I read ‘The Colony of Unrequited Dreams’ and thought about it a lot as we drove across Newfoundland both ways – especially overlooking Gambo, near Joey Smallwood’s birthplace. It was a wonderful book. Thanks for the reminder – I need to read more of his books.
That’s one of my favourite books. The Custodian of Paradise is also good.
I’ll have to get that. I’m reading ‘The Son of a Certain Woman” right now and finding it a fairly good read.
I haven’t read that one. Must read more — his writing is beautiful.
