Viking Ship, L’Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland – 2006

Norstead_watermarked

This is a replica of a Viking ship found at the Norstead Village in L’Anse aux Meadows, Newfoundland. The building housing the ship is also a replica. Above the pole ceiling is a thick sod roof, typical of Viking structures. L’Anse aux Meadows is believed to be the first place Viking explorers established a settlement in North America in about 1000 AD.

    • They took a more northerly route so were able to do it in shorter legs via Iceland, Greenland and then slipping down the East Coast of North America. Their boats were small but very seaworthy and had beautiful lines.
