The Wrecks – 2006

These rusting hulks are found near Royston, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.  In the first half of the 20th century this area was  known for it’s logging.  Cut trees would be brought out of the Comox Valley by train and dumped into Comox Bay.  The area was quite open to the wind and various methods to protect the booming ground met with limited success.  In the 1930’s old ships started to be brought in and sunk to form a breakwater. For the next 25 years a total of 14 ships were sunk on the site.  The ships have now deteriorated and remain as a reminder of British Columbia’s historic logging past.
